The
Museum of Prehistoric Thera
The museum of prehistoric Thera, is not an ordinary
museum. The masterpieces of Aegean prehistoric art,
such as famous murals and the only golden chamois
statue, raise its importance to this of Acropolis'
or Verginas' Museums.
The
murals of Thera
In the Conference Center "Petros M. Nomikos",
in Firostefani, are exhibited three-dimensional photocopies
of murals found in Akrotiri, in natural size. These
photos depict all murals of Akrotiri and they are
the only chance to observe them. Mr. Petros M. Nomikos
finances the cost of this reproduction, which, later,
donated to the Thera Institution - Petros M. Nomikos.
The
Archaeological Museum
The Archaeological museum is located in Fira Town,
revealing the island's history. Sculpture and inscription
collections from the Archaic to Roman times as and
vessels from Geometrical to Hellenistic period are
exhibited.
Folkloric
Museum
The Folkloric Museum is roofed under a structure
of 1861, inside a rock in Kontohori of Fira. There
are exhibited old blacksmith, carpenter, cooper and
shoemaker workshops, as and a traditional old wine
distillery, an art galley with important documents,
books and pieces of art.
Gyzis'
Mansion
In this old Mansion - Museum in Fira Town, are exhibited
chalcographies from the 16th to the 19th century
depicting apparels, landscapes and maps of various
Cycladitic islands. The visitors can also see old
photos before the 1956 earthquake and paintings of
great Greek painters that worked in the island.
Maritime Museum
The museum is located in Oia exhibiting all the elements
about the island's naval history, especially during
the 19th century.
Wine Museum
The "Wine Museum" is roofed under the
wine distillery (Volcan Wines) of Koutsogiannopoulos'
family on
the way to Kamari. It represents the history of
wine in Santorini from 1660 until 1950.

The islands of Nea and
Palea Kameni:
The youngest land of
eastern Mediterranean
Sea
These two small islands in the center of Caldera,
Palea and Nea Kameni, the "volcano" for locals,
consist the youngest volcanic land of eastern Mediterranean
Sea. Palea Kameni is of 2000 years old, while Nea
Kameni began to shape 425 years ago. While the
most recent volcanic pieces of ash, appeared less
than 50 years ago. Those islands represent the
most recent volcanic action.

The most famous beaches
in Santorini extend
along the east coastal
line of the island.
Every beach is different
and unique. Black,
shinny pebbles, strange
shapes of land, black,
white and red sand,
all create an unforgettable
landscape. All beaches
are well organized
with sunbeds, umbrellas
and water sports available.
Starting
from the north part
of the island, the
beaches of Oia will
fascinate you. They
have a wild and unseen
beauty. Only locals
used to swim in these
beaches, but recently
tourists discovered
them. They are not
easy accessible beaches.
The first beach you
will see on the way
from Oia is Baxedes,
next Kolumbo and at
the end, Pori, a small
fish port.
At
the southeast part
of the island you will
meet the beaches of
Monolithos, Avis and
Kamari. They are all
organized ideal for
families with small
children. Mostly in
Kamari, you will find
many hotels, restaurants,
taverns and small shops
along the coastal line.
As for water sports,
visit Avis, which attracts
mostly young people.
Perissa
and Perivolos are two
of the most famous
beaches in Santorini.
Together consist the
longest, with black
sand, beach in the
island. Here you will
find all sort of taverns,
restaurants and hotels.
In
the south part of the
island you will find:
Vlyhada with a beautiful
mountain and a lunar
landscape that captures
air through centuries.
The Red Beach with
unique abrupt rocks,
White Beach that can
be reached only by
boat, and the one in
Mesa Pygadia, create
a unique landscape.
